Arthritis is often bandied around as a diagnosis but in actual fact arthritis is a broad umbrella term for over 100 conditions.
These 100 or more conditions have one main thing in common they affect the joints of the body.
But largely the different types of arthritis can be broken into two major groups. Those caused by a misfiring of the immune system (auto-immune arthritis) and those that are not.
Auto-immune arthritities include rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, systemic lupus erythematosus, Psoriatic arthritis and others.
Non auto-immune arthrities include osteoarthritis
In this day and age of flying machines and viral cat videos you may find it surprising but as yet we have no cure for either type of arthritis.
The auto-immune related conditions can be managed with strong steroids and anti-inflammatories, as well determining triggers, managing stress and non-pain causing exercise.
Osteoarthritis is more related to excess load on a joint(s) for a number of years.
Errol St Osteo can use hands on Osteopathic care combined with pilates based movement advice to ease the load on the affected joint.
As well as advise the individual of things they can do to help themselves.
A Quick Hot Tip:
No matter the type of arthritis being fit and healthy a make it more manageable. If it is too sore to walk, then get in the pool or on the exercise bike.
Movement (movement that doesn’t hurt) makes joints that are sore feel better.
